So our boy went to the beach. I think that qualifies for Travel Tuesday. We were in Diani, Mombasa and it was the first time travelling with Amarii (our son) and we really hoped he would enjoy being in the open water because we both (Mrs. M & I) love to swim. We went slow though. Day 1 was a walk to the beach at sundown just so that he could see and smell and hear the sounds of the waves crashing. Plus none of us really felt like swimming that first day so a walk would have to suffice. A walk plus photos, obviously.
Day 2 was just all about the swimming pool. We finally got him to the water and got in with him and it was a mixed experience for him. It was like he loved it and then he’d just get scared and scream, then he’d love it and then the other emotions. Such a seesaw of emotions. But thankfully we spent about an hour at the pool. This was at “The Sands at Nomad”.
Photos from the pool experience are the ones below.
After this swim he was so beat that it was total blackout for the minislinger.
On Day 3 we went straight to the beach to get him to swim in the ocean. This one was fun for him. He really enjoyed the freedom of the beach and sat there for a bit (at this time he couldn’t sit by himself for long because, balance) but he discovered ways to make it fun for himself. As you will see in the photos below, he likes to take in his environment, literally. We didn’t even have time to catch him and stop him. *sigh*
As you can see, he felt the sand….
Then he got excited about the sand. Like really felt the texture….
Then he went in for the ultimate taste test….
And tried to decide whether or not he liked this white cloud-like thing that filled the floor….
I think he decided it was good. He looks like he’s giving God thanks for sand. You’ve been taught well my son.
After this we quickly took him to the water where at the very least, he couldn’t eat sand. Or at least we hoped he wouldn’t. He loved the ocean water a lot. Judging from how he played with it and drenched Mrs. M with his splashes in the process.
At the end of the day Amarii had been successfully inducted into the water tribe and we were happy that we went to Diani to induct him there. I hope you enjoyed today’s Travel Tuesday. I hope you enjoyed your travel companions, Amarii & Mrs. M. It was a pleasure having you on this ride.
God bless you and your family.
